In 1999, the State of Wisconsin adopted a law that requires counties and local units of government to adopt smart growth comprehensive plans if they want to continue enforcing their land use regulations, such as zoning and land division regulations, after January 1, 2010. The NEW Smart Growth Plan was adopted at the Town Board meeting on November 19, 2008.

The Town of Mukwonago began working on a proposed smart growth comprehensive plan is 2006 that is intended to replace our master plan that was adopted in 1998. To involve a cross section of town residents in the drafting of this plan, the Town Board established an advisory committee that included a number of property owners and representatives of business, agricultural, and environmental interests. The Town Board and Town Plan Commission have reviewed that plan and have adopted a final draft.

The plan addresses a range of topics including: issues and opportunities; housing; transportation; utilities and community facilities; agricultural, natural and cultural resources; economic development; intergovernmental cooperation; land use and implementation.

Please take some time to review the plan at the Mukwonago Town Hall, W320 S8315 Beulah Road, Monday through Friday 8:30 am - 3:30 pm or at the following locations:

Mukwonago Community Library, 300 Washington Avenue, Mukwonago

Alice Baker memorial Library, 820 E. Main Street, Eagle

                Town's Website (here!) http://www.townofmukwonago.us

Once again, please take this opportunity to help shape the future of the Town - we welcome your comments.

David Dubey, Town Chairman

In an effort to increase awareness of internet resources available to local governments and citizen planners, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has initiated a technical assistance program focused on computer tools for planning, conservation, and environmental protection. This program has been made possible by a grant. One data access tool is called "Window To My Environment", and is sponsored by the EPA. Users of WME can obtain information on their area's air and water quality by accessing data from federal and state monitoring sites.  Check out the website: http://www.epa.gov/enviro/wme/
